Moorish Plaster

Moorish Plaster Carvings and Moroccan plaster molds are a substantial part of Moorish, Islamic India, Andalusian and Arabesque Architecture. Some of the best display of plaster work can be seen in the famous Alhambra palace in Spain. The plaster art is still practiced throughout Morocco. The craft has evolved Today to include a modern interpretation. Using the same traditional techniques, Moroccan and European designers are introducing new and simplified versions of the classic plaster applications. We now find islamic star and other geometric shaped plaster patterns round contemporary style fireplaces and covering entire walls, instead of the traditional wall frieze and door surrounds. Contact Tazi Designs for more information and images of contemporary style plaster work in Morocco.

Moroccan Mosaic Tile

Mosaic is a form of decorative art in which small tiles or fragments of tile are used to create a pattern or picture. The process is known as "Zelij" in North Africa, also spelled zellig or "zilij". All of the Moroccan Mosaic Zelij is produced in the historic city of Fez. Our Moroccan mosaic artisan begins by hand-cutting the 4"x4" square piece of mosaic tile into the desired shape. Then, just like a puzzle, each piece of mosaic Zellij is placed face down to create the mosaic pattern. The Moroccan mosaic is sold by the foot, in 12"x12" square or custom sizes. We use different backing for the mosaic panels. Either on a mesh or a rigid backing such as concrete or resin fill. Contact Tazi Designs in California to receive more information about Moroccan mosaic tile.
