These Moroccan cream-colored wool throws are also known as wedding blanket and wedding cape bed cover. They are made by the Atlas Berber women in the Northern part of Morocco. They come as vintage pieces which have a lot more character than the newer versions. The Moroccan handira tend to be on the small side (not quite the 5'x8' standard US size).
The Moroccan tribal handira has become a popular accent round the house. You will find the Moroccan Handira or otherwise referred to as Moroccan wedding cape, used at the foot of the bed or over a daybed. You may also use them as floor coverings or as wall art. We have also sewn the handira for clients for use as floor cushions, poufs or pillows.
Some of the Moroccan tribal floor coverings come with mirrored sequin-like small round metal pieces. I find these vintage handiras very charming but you may find them uncomfortable to walk on. You would have to either cut out the mirrored metal parts, or better yet, keep them and use the vintage handira as wall art or over a piece of furniture. Why not give the handira as a wedding gift this summer, an original and soulful gift to remember.
