Moroccan interiors have been associated with vibrant colors and layers of textures; drawing inspiration traditionally from classic Moorish and Islamic designs. Elements of Moroccan architectural design include elaborate zellij mosaic tile work, carved plaster, carved and painted wood work, handmade brass and copper lanterns, hand loomed fabrics and embroidered cushions and textiles, colorful tribal rugs and hand-painted ceramics. The country has a wealth of craftsmen and women who proudly practice their handed down knowhow generation after generation. Thanks to domestic and international demand the artisanal craft has survived over the years and is flourishing even more Today. In recent years, Morocco has known a new and exciting wave of revival due in part to government encouragement of foreign investment in different sectors, chief among them is tourism. The construction of new hotels and notably the remodeling of old Moroccan dwellings called riads in the medina; as well as new garden oasis villas and restaurants on the outskirts of Marrakech, Agadir, Essaouira, Tangier among other towns have drawn internationally known architects, decorators and design enthusiasts. The abundance of craftsmanship and the mystery and intrigue of Moroccan culture and heritage have brought about a wonderful new style of Moroccan interiors which emerged from collaborations with European and American designers working with local artisans creating new concepts with a contemporary design sensibility. This new style takes the craft to another level of beauty and reach.
