Using a fine blade fretsaw tool, the master artisan begins by placing a paper pattern of a complex drawing onto a brass sheet. Then, the craftsman carefully cuts the openings into the brass following the curves of the pattern on paper. The brass is cut, sculpted and engraved with extreme finesse.
Utilizing a fretsaw tool, called a “serrouj” in Morocco, enables the craftsman to achieve a high level of craftsmanship not otherwise found in standard Moroccan productions. The beauty of our Moroccan lamps is enhanced by the time old tradition of engraving over the brass metal by hand. Tazi Designs is proud to uphold the tradition of brassware craftsmanship in our designs.
