These Moroccan cream-colored wool throws are also known as wedding blankets. They are made by the Atlas Berber women in the Northern part of Morocco. They come as vintage pieces which have a lot more character than the newer versions. The handira tend to be on the small side (not quite the 5’x8′ standard US size).
The Moroccan handira has become a popular accent round the house. You will find these Moroccan Handira throws used at the foot of the bed or over a daybed. You may also use them on the floor or as wall art. We have also sewn them for clients for use as floor cushions, poufs or pillows.
Some of the handiras come with mirrored sequin-like small round metal pieces. I find these vintage types of handiras very charming but you may find them uncomfortable to walk on. You would have to either cut out the mirrored metal parts, or better yet, keep them and use the vintage handira as wall art.
